Health and wellness professionals regularly encounter individuals experiencing psychological distress, sometimes without knowing how to address the situation, recognize warning signs, or intervene appropriately. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training helps them develop practical skills to identify signs of a mental health problem, listen without judgment, provide initial support, and guide individuals toward appropriate resources, whether they are experiencing a decline in their mental health or a crisis situation.
Just as physical first aid equips people to respond effectively in emergencies, Mental Health First Aid strengthens the ability to act when someone is in distress. This approach can also enhance professional practice and support a culture of mental health prevention and destigmatization.
The attached file contains descriptions of the two Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training formats: MHFA Fundamentals, a 6-hour (one-day) course, and MHFA Certification, a 12-hour (two-day) course that provides a nationally recognized Mental Health First Aider certification, valid for three years.
